February NewsletterWelcome to February 2010
Hi folks & welcome to our first newsletter for 2010
Janko continues to grow. We have boosted our numbers in the service department to three, with the inclusion of Graham Barratt. Graham spent 2009 with Gen-i, working predominantly with schools in Taranaki. He has built up a great working knowledge of the software used in schools and their equipment. We see this as a knowledge boost for the schools we already support, and another pair of hands in our very busy workshop. Please take the time to introduce yourself to Graham, and I have no doubt he will give you his full support.
Workshop
At time of writing, our turnaround time on average is around 3 working days. To be honest, we have been very busy, and appreciate your business. It is quite a juggle at times to get through the internal work, and get to all the site visits. Hence the reason why Graham has come on board. We endeavour to get through the work in the order that they came in. We apologise if your job appears to take longer than we estimated, it's simply the workload.
Data backup. When we work on a fault in the workshop, we normally take a backup of your drive, especially if there is data corruption, faulty hard drive or similar. This will take a small amount of time, and increase the job cost slightly, but it is a safe guard for you. While we will take all due care of your data while we are working on the system, the ultimate responsibility for your data, is you. We get a lot of "you won't lose my data will you", which translated, means, "I haven't got a current backup". PLEASE backup your data regularly, daily if possible. If you are not sure of a good backup system, let us know & we'll be glad to put one in place for you. We take no pride in customers losing their data.
Student specials. At present Microsoft has special student pricing on both Office Home & Student 2007 ($149.00) & Office Professional Academic 2007 ($298.00). The Professional Academic is for people studying at University, polytechnic or open polytechnic, and must have a current ID of material to say they are studying at that institution.
LED backlight displays. The new technology in LCD monitors (and TV's) is the LED backlight. Compared to the standard LCD's. LCD's with LED backlight offer brighter light and less power consumption, thus less heat from the monitor. They offer a thinner screen and reported to have a much longer operating life. We have one of these monitors on display, so please check it out when next in the shop.
Windows 7. Still a winner, with great end-user feedback, and works well with other operation systems on a network. We have a mixture of XP, Vista & Win 7 on our network, all running well. Please remember to keep the Windows updated for best results.
MYOB Accounting. Neville is attending an update briefing in Wellington this month, which will preview the new Accounting V19 and on-line accounting software from MYOB. Also MYOB have been working on a total re-write of the accounting software in a new programming package, which will give tremendous features to the users. This should be quite an exciting partner briefing (if it's possible to get excited about accounting software). But seriously, we have been doing a lot of upgrading from the older NZA Gold and AuroraOne accounting packages, so if you are thinking of upgrading, let us know. Most often we can import you customers, suppliers and stock into MYOB or Infusion, and save you a lot of data re-entry.
Sorry that last bit was a little heavy, but we want to keep you up with what is happening out there, especially the business owners
Thanks for taking the time to keep in touch & we wish everyone all the best.
