June NewsletterWelcome to our June newsletter Janko turns 20 !! What a milestone for Janko. We are proud to have dedicated team members that are prepared to go the extra mile, and be here for our 20th birthday.
It seems so long ago since Janko started out at Oakura, selling computer products from a home address. Yes those were the days, young children, two jobs, new technology, and no Internet. Looking back, the prices of computers then were very expensive, with the top system selling for around $5000.00, but only a fraction of the computing power compared to today's models. We remember the first CD-ROM we purchased. It was a reader only, not recordable, and was rated a 1x speed. It retailed for $1160.00, (exc GST), higher than the price of an entry level laptop now. And laptops, well they were actually called luggables, and were the size of a small travel bag, and weighed around 10 - 12kgs. Imagine if you carried it onto a plane today, you would probably need a spare seat for it.

So who's who?
Well, there are still some familiar faces floating around. Ron in the service department has been with the business for just under 16 years, a tremendous effort, and much appreciated. Gareth and Graham are the other two faces you will come across in service. Between them they have a wealth of knowledge, but that doesn't stop the challenges in this industry of course.
On the sales side, Eric heads the team with Darryl and Brian. Eric is also a long termer, of around 10 years so has a wealth of knowledge for putting you into a solution that suits your needs. Together the team can build your new system and transfer all of your data from the old one. By offering the complete service, we are able to differentiate ourselves from the larger department stores. We know a lot of the times we will never be able to compete on price alone, so it's great to be able to offer the full service with Internet and network setup.
Last, but not least, there's Neville & Sue. Neville is still the Owner / Director and is very proud of the 20 year milestone. Of course, it couldn't be done without a good right hand assistant. There are many times when Sue has put Neville back on track (LOL), but she loves the challenge of course. Sue is also another long termer, with around 13 years of dedicated service. Well done Sue, Neville's shout.
Of course, a huge thank you to all our loyal customers over the years, without you, we wouldn't have survived. Over the years we have seen quite a few names in our industry come & go, so we are privileged to still be here to support Taranaki. The last year with the world-wide recession was certainly a challenge, but over the last two years we have increased the team number by two. We enjoy being busy and the excitement of new products and trends in technology, it's truly a great industry to be in.
